Rab Pulse LS Zip Tee Review
Worn and tested by Trek Scotland in the Scottish Highlands whilst Multi Day Trekking through Spring to early Winter 2019.
When Multi Day Trekking every bit of gear our guides carry and wear is thought about carefully in terms of weight, durability, temperature control and overall functionality. When it comes to clothing worn close to the skin we also consider comfort, wicking and breathability, as well as low odour.
The Rab Pulse Long Sleeve Tee is designed for active use and we certainly tested it over 7 months of use. We found it highly breathable and, with its Motiv fabric, extremely comfortable against the skin whilst also wicking away moisture on the sweatiest of days. Moreover, when worn as a single layer it had a cooling effect on the hottest summer days and the deep venting YKK chest zip allowed further temperature regulation. Even when damp, the top dried extremely quickly. On some of our longer Multi Day Treks it was even possible to rinse the Pulse in a stream, or wear it whilst loch swimming, and have it dry in minutes. Add to this the Polygeine Stay Fresh anti-odour coating, this top can be worn on consecutive days without causing offense to ‘day goers’ or other members of the party out on the hills.
In terms of fit the Pulse has a regular cut with the material stretching well to the body. It has a good length that covers the lower back even when reaching high or bending over. The sleeves are long enough for the thumb loops to be used correctly. The overall bulk is very low and the top works well as a base worn under numerous layers. The build quality is outstanding and although weighing only 106g [medium] the Pulse is still as good as new after an intensive 7 months of use. The stitching and low bulk seams are super strong. This top will easily last another season if not more!
Our Verdict
Overall the Rab Pulse Long Sleeve Tee is an outstanding garment which ticks all the right boxes. It is highly durable, lightweight, wicks extremely well, keeps odour to a minimum, has great fit and comfort and meets all our requirements as a versatile base layer for Multi Day Trekking or other full on mountain activities such as fell running, scrambling or rock climbing. Our guides will be wearing the Pulse again next season!
