RAB's Strata Flex Jacket has a matt finish to the fabric gives it fashion appeal but the real story is in Polartec Alpha itself, designed to be worn when you are active - so on the move - there are alternative insulation garments that are more suited to wearing around camp - Strata is about keeping you vented even though you are also being kept insulated.
Its quite a breakthrough, especially for cold weather walking when you need insulation but start sweating hard when you reach a strenuous bit. Weight for weight Polartec Alpha is only about half as warm as Primaloft so the king of insulation keeps its crown - but Alpha has its place - I recently wore an Alpha garment all day while walking in Corsica in particularly cold conditions and stayed warm & comfortable for the duration - I kept checking my baselayer, which stayed completely dry.
The Strata Flex jacket combines the Polartec Alpha insulation with Polartec Power Stretch sides and underarms - this provides and enhanced freedom of movement and a closer fit than if the acket was 100% Alpha insulation.
From a design point of view it has all the features you would expect to find on a quality product from RAB. Handwarmer pockets are provided but there's no chest pocket on either the inside or outside of the garment. There's also no adjustment at the hem as the jacket relies on the stretch of the Power Stretch to keep that close fit. Thumb loops are fitted to the wrist, which is 100% Power Sretch so these can be pulled over the hands in cooler weather.
