Outdoor Research's Enchainment Jacket is a technical blend of tightly woven softshell fabric and highly breathable, stretchy panels to create a jacket that's comfortable to wear for high activity.
Outdoor Research says:
Breathable, versatile and offering shelter from everything but the burliest of downpours, the soft shell Enchainment Jacket™ excels during high-exertion mountaineering, ski mountaineering and alpine climbing. The tightly woven body blocks wind and sheds snow, and the highly breathable stretch Schoeller® panels allow for dynamic movement and expel excess heat.
||||Schoeller Nanosphere Technology - NanoSphere®, the nanotech-based finishing technology allows dirt and water to simply run off the surface of the textiles. This mimics the natural self-cleaning effect of certain plants whose leaves always remain clean. Click Logo to read more..|

The first impression of Outdoor Research's Enchainment Jacket is awesome, its incredibly well put together with two fabrics working together in zoned areas to ensure freedom of movement and enhanced breathability under the arms and across the back.
Interestingly OR have taped some seams in the jacket - essentially those seams that make up the tightly woven panels of the jacket, whereas the seams making up the highly breathable areas have not been taped. This suggests that the protection in the key areas is pretty comprehensive but where they've installed breathable panels these are truly breathable!
These panels are under the arms, across the back and a small section in front of your mouth when the jacket's done up tight.
The hood is fully adjustable with a round the head cinch cord and the peak is wired. There are comprehensive pockets, including one inside, all lined with a fine mesh. Overall the weight of the Enchainment jacket is quite a lot, but the weight of pockets, hood adjustments and seams all addup, so the payoff is in its feature-set.
