Marmot's Speed Light jacket is made from durable 40 dernier fabric throughout with a leading edge Goretex Pro membrane to create a tough jacket that's nonetheless highly breathable and realatively lightweight.
Marmot says: Miniscule in your pack, the lightweight Speed Light Jacket provides heavy duty, three-layer GORE-TEX protection. The robust shell is completely seam taped and waterproof, and features Angel-Wing Movement for unhindered mobility. It also has our most technical laminated wire brim hood, designed for the most challenging weather environments.
With up to a 28% increase in breathability over current GORE-TEX® Pro laminates, this technology increases the interior comfort of the garment by enabling the wearer to feel less clammy and more comfortable over a wide range of temperatures and conditions. The new membrane technology performs better in lower humidity conditions, is more comfortable in warmer conditions caused by solar loading, and has improved dry out times in conditions with frequent work-rest cycles with.
Designed to be even more durable and rugged than past generations, the new GORE-TEX® Pro fabrics feature a new high density ripstop micro grid woven backer for snag resistance on the inside, and a collection of durable abrasion resistant face fabrics on the outside.

Marmot's Speed Light Jacket is not as light as many other jackets that we sell, but then it is pretty tough, and does have a good feature set with three external pockets and pit zips. Goretex refers to the membrane that keeps water out but allows perspiration to escape from the inside, and this membrane needs to be bonded to inner and outer fabrics to create the garments that benefit from the technology.
The lightest jacket have a waterproof membrane that's bonded to super light fabrics, which makes the overall jacket very lightweight but compromises durability. The fabric on the Speed Light Jacket is 40 dernier throughout, which means its heavy in comparison but far more durable than jackets that are lighter.
The leading edge Goretex Pro membrane offers a high level of breathabiity and the face fabric offers a high level of durability - so that's what this jacket is all about, it'll deal with rain, hail, wind and everything else that the weather will throw at it - and also, by the way, its very lightweight given its performance.
Feature-wise its top of the range, all the zips are weatherproof and the main zip has an internal backing flap. The hood has a wired foam peak and a 'round the head' adjustment so that it moves as you do. Detail like the shaped cuff rubber hem pulls are excellent, and what you would expect in a jacket of this quality.
