Lowe Alpine's Caldera Jacket is a lightweight yet durable softshell jacket using 2-way stretch Stormweave technology to provide exceptional moisture control and weather resistant protection for alpine situations.
Lowe Alpine says:Alpine protection at it's peak! A lightweight yet durable, water resistant Soft Shell jacket, rich with features to ensure that you are ready to deal with whatever the mountain throws at you - all day long.
With Stormweave™ technology that allows for superior moisture control and designed to give a more athletic-fit, the Caldera Jacket is a must-have for outdoor adventurers who demand performance, moveability and resistance against the elements in the lightest possible form.
Lowe Alpine Stormweave - Stormweave fabrics are constructed with a doubleweave technique that uses finer yearns on the face f the fabric with thicker ones on the back. This combination creates a natural pull/push effect, where moisture is drawn into the fabric by the thicker yarns that are closer to the wearer.
Then, via capillary action, the moisture is spread across the finer yarns for more efficient evaporation.
Current Stormweave fabrics use strong nylon yarns to produce a garment that is wind and weather resistant, tough and durable. Elastic Spandex is added to provide stretch performance.
Stormweave is super comfortable for day-long wear.
Lowe Alpine's Caldera Jacket is made from a lightweight softshell fabric that is really soft with good stretch, so its very comfortable and can be quite a close fit yet still allow decent movement. The hood has a simple volume adjuster and no wiring or peak - when tightened it sits around the face.
Nice to see thumb loops in this jacket, which underlines how light it is, its almost like wearing a midlayer. The pockets are lined with mesh so you can vent the jacket a little by leaving them open.
The Stormweave fabric looks good, and we're impressed by the finish of the clothing with copious bar tacking in all the right places. .
