Lowe Alpine's Frozen Sun Jacket uses two weights of Polartec Alpha insulation to provide you with breathable insulation that you can wear while active without getting soaked with sweat. It has a matt finish to the fabric gives it fashion appeal but the real story is in Polartec Alpha itself, designed to be worn when you are active - so on the move - there are alternative insulation garments that are more suited to wearing around camp - Polartec Alpha is about keeping you vented even though you are also being insulated.
Its quite a breakthrough, especially for cold weather walking when you need insulation but start sweating hard when you reach a strenuous bit. Weight for weight Polartec Alpha is only about half as warm as Primaloft so the king of insulation keeps its crown - but Alpha has its place - I recently wore an Alpha garment all day while walking in Corsica in particularly cold conditions and stayed warm & comfortable for the duration - I kept checking my baselayer, which stayed completely dry.
From a design point of view there are two large handwarmer pockets and one chest pocket. The hood volume can be adjusted using a velcro strip and its wired so can be pulled in around the face. The wrist close with velcro also and the main zipper has an internal flap to keep draughts out.
Inside there's a loose high wicking liner as this is the best way to maximise the insulation's breathability properties, there's no point in covering the insulation with something less breathable. There's a lot of thought gone into the materials used and the construction is to a high standard.
