Marmot's Essence jacket achieves very low weight without compromising on features (although there's only one pocket), the Nano Pro Membrain fabric offers high breathability.
Marmot says: A featherweight phenom, the minimalist construction of the Women’s Essence makes use of state-of-the-art NanoPro® MemBrain® fabric that is waterproof and breathable. The attached hood, integrated cooling vents and a free-moving design enhance the sleek, streamlined shape. Pocket-less, except for a single chest pocket, this hooded diva weighs in at a slight 5.8 ounces, making her stealthy and ready to run.
The pinnacle of 2.5 layer lamination technology Marmot NanoPro Membrain™ is our most comfortable waterproof/breathable technology ever. NanoPro's™ superior microporous structure is dynamically air permeable, allowing for air exchange to help shed excess moisture vapor without compromising the waterproofness or windproofness of the garment.
Marmot's Essence Jacket is Marmot's supremely ultralight offering. The fabric is there in house NanoPro Membrain which has impressive breathability statistics as well as a typical value for hydrostatic head. The fabric has a nice matt finish and feels almost like paper in its texture.
Underneath the arms at both sides there's a mesh vent comprised of a slit with an overlapping protective cover - the vent is completely protected from rain, but I can see how it would open as you move. Its quite a clever detail.
The hood has a foam stiffened brim and a rear velcro adjustment. There are no hand pockets but there's a single small chest pocket. All zips are water resistant, the main one being backed by an internal storm flap. the cuffs are simply finished with a light elastication and the jacket hem can be cinched in with shockcord.
Its a superlight shell jacket with some nice features and a fabric that is high on breathability.
