Mountain Equipment's Lhotse Gore-Tex Jacket is a great all-round mountain jacket as it's waterproof, durable and has all the features you would expect to see on a top-of-the-range £300+ jacket, without adding too much extra in weight.
What makes this jacket stand out is the use of two different face fabrics; there's GORE-TEX Pro 40D throughout the main areas of the jacket which is light yet tough, with even tougher GORE-TEX Pro 80D fabric reinforcements across the shoulders and down the sides of the arms for extra protection from rucksacks and abrasions.
The overall style of the jacket is nice, trim but not restrictive, though some may think it's a little short for a mountaineering jacket. The cut of the jacket has been designed so that the main zip sits flat down the front, preventing that awful bulging you tend to get with some waterproof jackets. There's also no stitch lines as most things are glued for a seamless face.
Feature-wise you've got everything you need from a mountaineering jacket, from ventilating pit zips to a helmet compatible hood with a stiff laminated peak. The hood actually fits just as well when not worn with a helmet thanks to the three adjustment points, one with Cohaesive cordlocks. All of the zips are highly water resistant and the main zip has a two-way adjustment so you can easily wear it under or over a climbing harness.
