When weight and pack size are critical factors for a waterproof jacket the Podium is a great choice for runners. Weighing in just over 110g this fully waterproof jacket with a hood meets the mandatory kit list criteria for races.

Montane says:

Designed for fast and light runners for whom kit weight and packability is paramount, the Podium Pull-On uses one of the lightest weight waterproof and breathable fabrics available. Perfect as a reliable emergency waterproof shell which will pack tiny into your training and race packs year-round.

Montane's Podium Unisex Waterproof Pull-On is focussed on minimum weight and low bulk for racers. A YKK AquaGuard half zip with storm flap adds to the waterproof protection while the level of breathability is much better than expected on such a minimalist jacket. When packed down it's barely noticeable in your pack for racing. It is not designed for heavier packs so even fastpacking trips will push the durability of this jacket.

The shaped fit is great for running while the hood is basic but does exactly what it needs to. This is perfect for weight conscious racers where it is most likely going to spend more time stashed away than being worn. The thin material still maintains surprisingly high levels of waterproofing and breathability while also being transparent enough that race numbers can be seen underneath it.

Survived the Swedish Kungsleden

I walked the full Swedish Kungsleden with this jacket and it's been one of the greatest pieces of kit I've added to my collection lately. I must say, while doing the Kungsleden, it only rained on us (me and the wife) a few times, although one of them was a good intense downpour that lasted 4-5 hours.
PROS: - 118g, size L (l used a 6g Cuben Fiber bag to store it away) - Packs down to nothing - Decently waterproof (need to further test it on nonstop rain for days) - Comfortable while carrying a 13.5kg backpack, also when running (yes, l tried both) - Minimalist, no pockets, pull-on (if you're into that) - Excellent hood protection, it follows your head - The jackets dries off in the blink of an eye - Very thin material (20D), yet it took many direct hits from branches and overgrown vegetation no problem - The jacket resisted the full 440km of the Kungsleden hike while carrying a 11-13.5kg backpack (weight varied depending on remaining food) - Athletic fit (not too bulky), yet it accommodates a long sleeve merino t-shirt and an 'active' mid-layer absolutely fine
NEUTRAL - Breathability: If you're an experienced hiker and have little expectations on this end, it'll positively surprise you. Of course, the moment you push up the hill, run on it, etc. it's like a trash bag on you, but what 'waterproof' jacket isn't?
CONS - I swear I can't find anything negative to say about this excellent jacket. It truly ticks all the boxes (if you're an experienced hiker, of course, but then you know what you're buying). I fully recommend the jacket. It's coming back to Sweden with me to attempt (if the Arctic weather allows) the Nordkalottleden (starting 22nd August). *I think, the best combination to waterproof yourself would be this jacket + a hiking umbrella (around 368g combined), which I'm going to prove on the Nordkalottleden's +800km hike...
