Montane's Podium Pants are an ultra lightweight, waterproof, breathable running pant that you'll keep stowed away until conditions are really against you. Fulfills race criteria when mandatory kit requires waterproofs with taped seams.
Montane says:
Designed for fast and light runners for whom kit weight and packability is paramount, the Podium Pants use one of the lightest weight waterproof and breathable fabrics available. Perfect as a reliable emergency waterproof shell which will pack tiny into your training and race packs year-round.

Montane have recognised the need to have fully waterproof pants for racing whilst minimising weight and packsize since they spend more time in a pack than actually being worn. The Podium waterproof pants are a unisex design that minimise bulk and weight, coming in under 100g for the medium size. The 20D fabric still offers enough strength and durability for these to be practical pants compared to other ultralight race pants.
As an runner who's completed ultra distance races and mountain marathons, the weight and pack size far outweigh concerns of durability. For how often these actually come out of the pack to be worn there is no point carrying tougher, heavier waterproofs. As well as being super lightweight, they pack down really small. The trouser also features taped seams, an elasticated front, waistband and hem and a reflective logo for better visibility.

zip too short
Wore it a few times in rain and wind and they perform really well. Stayed dry, didnt get too sweaty. Packed them for that mandatory kit list a few times, and again, very happy. Lightweight, packs up small, just what I want. But yesterday, the ultimate test arrived: I tried to put them on in a sudden windy downpour. Nope. Total failure. Couldn't get it over my shoes. Zip is a good inch too short.
