The Spine Pant is a lightweight, highly breathable and waterproof Gore-Tex Active Shell, designed for high aerobic trail activities.
The Montane Spine Pants are inspired by the legendary runners of Britain’s most brutal ultra race, the Montane Spine Race. This deep winter endurance event traverses 268 miles (431 km) along Britain’s oldest and most isolated national trail, the Pennine Way. Combining a highly waterproof, breathable and lightweight GORE-TEX® Active shell with a minimalist run feature set for reduced weight and enhanced packability, the Montane Spine Pants offer exceptional waterproof performance and comfort without compromise.
The Spine Pants follows the key principles of Montane’s VIA Trail Series®, which ensures minimalist design with run-specific tailoring, keeping weight to an absolute minimum without compromising the safety of the user in mountainous environments.

Montane's Spine Gore-Tex Waterproof Pant is ideal for high aerobic activities from alpine trail running to mountain biking. This is due to it's lightweight fabric, Gore-Tex waterproofing and of course it's highly breathable membrane. It's about half the thickness of a classic Gore so it's not as durable as a pro shell but it is a lot lighter and more breathable than both the Pro shells.
In terms of features it's been kept pretty simple to keep the weight down. There's no pockets but it does feature long side zips to make getting them on and off in a hurry a lot easier, with press stud adjustment at the bottom so you can fit it close to your shoes. It also has an elasticated waistband with internal loops for attaching braces (not included) if you choose to use them.
