It's strange that Marmot have named these overtrousers Minimalist as it's feature set isn't the most basic when compared to others and it's not exactly ultralight when compared to the Haglofs Less Is More range of waterproofs. It's closest competitor would probably be Outdoor Research's Foray Pants as they both use GORE-TEX Paclite technology and weigh roughly the same - in the middle of our weight category's. Taking into consideration its impressive weather resistance and affordable price, the weight is perfectly reasonable.
It’s true that Paclite is among Gore-Tex’s lightest and compressible designs, but outside of using the shell for activities it’s not designed for like skiing or rock climbing, we have very few concerns about durability. If your after a more durable waterproof then you should be looking at overtrousers in the Pro category rather than the Paclite.
Overall it's a well-rounded design with clean styling, water resistant zipper hand pockets, comfortable fit and ankle length zippers, offering excellent performance against the rain and wind. A great price for a high-quality rain pant.
