Inov8's AT/C Ultrapant U is an ultra lightweight, waterproof, breathable running trouser made from a 4-way stretch transparent fabric. Fulfills all the criteria when race organisers rule that waterproofs must be carried as part of mandatory kit.

Inov8 says:

Our lightest waterproof running trouser has been stripped back even further and now weighs just 86g. Designed for those runners wanting to race as light and fast as possible, this breathable trouser is perfect mandatory race-day kit. This unisex pant packs away small for easy, lightweight carrying.

The AT/C Ultrapant U is Inov8's lightest ever water proof trouser and is the ideal piece of kit for mountain and ultra athletes who want to race as light and fast as possible. The key feature of this jacket is the fully transparent 4-way stretch fabric shell that can instantly stretch to fit over your shoes.

As well as being super lightweight, it packs down really small and can be secured in place using an integrated loop on the waistband, making it easy to carry. The trouser also features taped seams, an elasticated front, waistband and hem and a reflective logo for better visibility.

Not for heavy duty usage

The bad first: * These pants run small * Waist is very low * Hard to fit over some shoes (especially trail shoes) * Durability may be a problem for some users. These four negative aspects are my main grievances and should be taken into consideration when purchasing. Low waist is a problem when wearing a backpack, since it may funnel water into the seat of the pants. Given the pants worn sizing may be a problem since it constrains movement. The last two coincide, the material is very thin and some trail shoes with aggressive lugs snag on the fabric easily - these is no manual open/Close function. The positives: * Very light * Super packable * Surprisingly breathable * Not uncomfortable even directly on skin The positives are self-explanatory, I'd say. All in all, a nice pair of pants in emergency situations but not for consecutive full-day use. Less durable than for example Patagonia Alpine Houdini pants that packs about as small, albeit being a bit heavier but durable considering the weight.

Super lightweight protection

I haven't used these much in the two years I've had them as it rarely rains enough for me to bother taking them out of my pack. They've been used the most to fight the wind. When it was exceptionally cold (-12C with windchill) they were the best thing I've ever bought. With cold winds and driving rain and snow these pants perform exactly how you want. They probably aren't that durable and I imagine they'd be torn to shreds running through heather but they are ideal for emergency use. I wear shorts in any conditions and still don't need to use these much - which is why they are perfect with such low weight and tiny pack size.
