Ultimate Direction says:
You don’t have to choose between waterproof and breathable, with the Ultra Jacket v2 you get both! The Ultra Jacket v2 breathes and protects better than any rain jacket on the market. It’s a perennial bestseller because it works so well and athletes love it.
Ultimate Direction's Ultra Jacket V2 is a stand out running jacket. With a HH of 30,000 and MVTR of 30,000 this jacket certainly looks to provide loads of protection and impressive breathability. The low weight and impressive pack size would indicate a jacket with minimal features. For example, there are no real pockets, simply one small internal pocket that doubles as the stuff sack. However, the features that are included in this jacket are unique and perfectly thought through to make this a great running jacket.
The breathability of this jacket is a priority which is a huge reason why it is so much better than many rivals. Under the arms there are vents that allow cool air in and hot air out. The overlapped design of these vents creates what UD call a peristaltic armpit vent that helps pump in cool air and pump out warm air during natural arm movement and it seems to work quite well. The hood is also specifically designed to maximise airflow. The voluminous hood feels more like a helmet compatible hood but this is to create a tunnel effect bringing air in while keeping rain out, again adding to the impressive ventilation for running. An additional feature is the integrated waterproof mitts that flip out to cover your hand when conditions worsen, a welcome bit of protection in cold weather.
