The Mountain Equipment Shivling Jacket uses Gore-Tex Pro fabric to provide maximum weather protection. The 40D fabric is still surprisingly lightweight but certainly tough and durable for taking on serious mountain conditions.
Mountain Equipment says:

With all the performance benefits of GORE-TEX Pro, our Alpine fit and Mountain HC Hood the Shivling is a simple and super protective shell for any mountain. Easily weathering the worst storms its low weight and bulk means it can easily be carried just in case in less severe conditions.

Mountain Equipment's Shivling Gore-Tex Jacket has all the features you would expect to see on a top-of-the-range +£300 jacket. It delivers bombproof rain protection in a great looking package. The 40 denier fabric feels stiff but softens over time with use, the stiffness of the fabric is reassuring and gives you the sense that this jacket will stand up to some serious weather.
All of the zips are highly water resistant and the main zip has a two-way adjustment so you can easily wear it under or over a climbing harness. The pit zips are extremely useful for allowing extra ventilation on those tough ascents. The zips are a little tough, but I find with zips like these they tend to soften over time.
The hood offers 3 areas of adjustment with an extra large peak that feels so much more substantial than what you normally get on a waterproof, you could really hunker down in this jacket and feel very protected from the weather. The two hand pockets are large enough for a map, and the inner pocket offers enough room for a phone, keys or other small essential items.
As it's a mountain shell it's not designed to be the lightest jacket available (although it's still surprisingly light considering the features and fabrics used). Instead it's designed to be tough, waterproof and highly breathable thanks to the Gore-Tex Pro fabric, offering exceptional year-round protection.
