An update to our ultimate alpine shell jacket, used by mountain professionals and extreme climbers on the hardest technical ascents. Engineered to deliver the perfect balance between performance, protection and weight.

Rab says:

Get set for tough alpine ascents and steep, technical climbs with our waterproof Muztag GTX Jacket. With its 30D and 40D GORE-TEX® Pro fabrics, it delivers the perfect balance between breathability, protection and weight.

The Muztag GTX Jacket is built from multi-layer, air-permeable 30D GORE-TEX® Pro Most Breathable fabric with 40D reinforcements. This enables extreme breathability, helping to minimise moisture build up delivering greater comfort for a wider range of activities and conditions. The jacket also features both zipped and mesh internal pockets, plus four external pockets that are easy to use while wearing a harness. The hem and waist can be adjusted with one-handed drawcords and the glove-friendly cuffs come with knuckle protection to prevent water ingress. In addition to a pair of deep-venting pit zips, the Muztag GTX Jacket features a highly advanced helmet-compatible hood with wired and laminated peak, roll down tab, wind collar and three-way adjustment.

The Muztag GTX Jacket is the ultimate high-energy alpine shell. With an active fit, zoned fabrics and an articulated design, it delivers outstanding mountain protection without the weight or bulk.

Rab's 2020 Muztag Gore-Tex Jacket is designed to take a beating from the elements so you don't have to. This new version uses a combination of Gore-Tex Pro fabric in order to provide a good balance between protection and performance. The solid 40D Pro panels provide serious protection while the areas of 30D fabric allow for greater breathability where it is needed most. The alpine oriented design shows in the climber friendly fit, large chest pockets and fully adjustable hood.

Solid cuffs and hood work brilliantly to keep out the worst of the weather and are supper durable when the jacket sees heavy usage. The helmet compatible hood adjusts fairly easily and although it feels cavernous without a helmet it can still be fitted pretty well. Solid, weather resistant zips provide reliability with the main zip having a large, glove friendly tab for ease of use. There is also a small, secure, stretchy inner pocket and simple stretch mesh drop pocket for additional storage options. Although I've not had the chance to test this in full winter conditions yet it has handled the wind and rain from numerous storms with ease.

Excellent All Season Jacket

Apart from the noise this generates as you walk I found this to be an excellent jacket. The first 8 days of my trip were cold, wet and windy but this jacket coped extremely well. I only ever wore a short-sleeved wicking vest inside the jacket and on only one occasion, at the end of an arduous day, did I feel cold and damp. The vents worked well and the hood offered excellent protection to my face during the worst of the storms. I would personally wear this jacket in all seasons, but the only thing I missed in retrospect was hip pockets. This wouldn't affect any future decision to purchase this jacket though.
