UOG TOP PICK - Montane's Minimus Jacket - Lightweight all rounder - We've singled out Montane's Minimus Jacket as one of our recomendations because its a great example of a lightweight waterproof jacket. The fabric performs very well, it has a well designed hood and all the right features.

A true lightweight aficianado's waterproof shell. Superior protection from the Pertex Shield+ fabric, which has a 20,000mm waterproof rating and a very high 25,000 breathability rating. You will stay comfortable and dry while out on the trails.

Montane says:

Weighing in at 215g the Minimus is an ultra lightweight rain shell from the future. The fabric Pertex Shield delivers exceptional breathability levels and performance characteristics that you would normally find at the high end of extreme mountain shells.

Whilst designed to work hard during fast paced endurance activities in wet conditions the Minimus is equally at home as a high performance rain shell on a trip out in stormy weather and with a pack size the shape of an apple it will hardly be noticed when not in use.

|Pertex Shield+ Fully Waterproof Breathable Fabric - with high 20,000mm Hydrostatic Head and high 20,000g MVTR breathability rating Pertex Shield+ delivers very high performance at very low weight. Click Logo to read more...

A superbly light Montane jacket with good waterproofing and breathability characteristics - some good features retained from heavier jackets - such as the cord adjuster round the head/hood - so the hood will follow your head when you turn it.

Velcro cuffs chest pocket with keyring (will stop a keyring degrading the pocket material) chin fleece and drawcord hem. Uncompromising design - this jacket sets a new standard.

Superlight & superdry

I bought this jacket to keep my Mountain Hardware Micro Ratio Hooded Down jacket dry. And so it did during a reasonable test in constant drizzle at 7 deg C and 87% humidity. I walked continuously for 3 hrs without a backpack. There was no ingress of rain, the hood could be adjusted very easily. The build-up of condensation was no greater than I have experienced with other jackets. It does not come with an A/C inbuilt so I will have to frequently open the jacket to vent it. Superlight! Excellent!
