Montane's Alpine Spirit Gore-Tex Jacket is a versatile hardshell for year-round alpine adventures. Built from tough, 70 Denier Gore-Tex Performance fabric, the Alpine Spirit is a hard-wearing shell that retains a surprising level of breathability for high-intensity adventures.
All of the zips are highly water resistant and the main zip works two-ways so you can easily wear it under or over a climbing harness. The adjustments on the jacket are all easy to use, with 2 pull drawcords on the hem and 3 on the hood, working together to give you the best fit while keeping the cold out.
The hood is comfortable to wear with or without a climbing helmet and features a stiffened peak for extra stability. The two hand pockets are large enough for a map, and the chest pocket is also surprisingly large with enough room for a phone, keys and other essential items.
The Alpine Spirit Jacket is well suited to all adventures, from long-distance treks and alpine climbs to rainy days in the Lakes or a afternoon stroll, this is truly versatile mountain staple.

The most impressive shell layer I've used!
I moved away from Gore-Tex in the early 90s having had a real disappointment with a Paclite jacket. Since then I've used various alternatives with varying results. However, this Montane jacket is amazing. It is probably the most breathable shell I've ever used and seems completely impregnable, even by the driving rain of the NW Highlands. Hood is probably the best compromise between capacity and fit. Any negatives? Only perhaps that I would have liked it being an inch longer in the body.
