The Marmot Alpha 60 Vest is an incredibly versatile piece, made using an Alpha Direct fleece inner which provides a warm yet lightweight insulation layer; sitting close to the body the directional fleece offers a powerful wicking action and light, airy feel.
When unpredictable weather hits on the crag during summer and spring climbs, the Alpha 60 Vest is the just-in-case insulating yet lightweight layer you want to have in your pack. Engineered to be incredibly air permeable, Pertex® Quantum Air fabric with 4-way stretch strikes the sought-after balance of wind resistance and breathability, so you can regulate your body heat and stay comfortable.
An adjustable hood and durable water-repellent (DWR) finish add extra protection against light rain and snow. Polartec® Alpha® insulation keeps you warm whether you're on the move or waiting for the next one. Zippered handwarmer pockets provide key storage.
Marmot's Alpha 60 Vest uses Polartec Alpha breathable insulation, a more modern version of a lightweight fleece, that keeps you warm but lets sweat out, even when active. Polartec Alpha Direct insulation is basically the same but with the mesh liner removed, so you get more unimpeded airflow (not to mention less weight and bulk) without sacrificing warmth. It also feels super soft against your skin!
It's designed to be worn when you're active - so on the move - there are alternative insulation garments that are more suited to wearing around camp - Polartec Alpha Direct is about keeping you vented even though you are also being kept insulated.
The Alpha 60 Vest is one of the lightest vests we stock that uses this technology while also packing down small into it's own pocket, making it incredibly versatile. The outer fabric is constructed from Pertex Quantum Air which enables the insulation to breathe fully. A good match as you wouldn't want the outer layer to cancel out the breathability of the inner.
Feature wise the hood can be rolled up and kept in place with a little hook and both the hand warmer pockets have a zip closure to secure valuables. The hood, hem and arm holes are all elasticated with no adjustments which tends to be more comfrotable when worn under layers.
