The Nano-Air Jacket was made to be worn for the entirety of your aerobic, start-stop alpine missions, so you’re never slowed down by changing layers. Warm, stretchy and breathable FullRange insulation dumps excess heat when you’re going hard and keeps you warm when you’re not. Now built with significant recycled content in the shell, liner and insulation, our Nano-Air collection sets another new standard for technical insulation.

Patagonia says:

It used to be somewhat mythical: A warm, stretchy breathable layer you could put on and leave on through high-output, stop-and-go activities in cold weather. That is, until our Nano-Air® Jacket broke onto the active insulation scene and redefined how we layer in the cold. Now, another breakthrough: we’ve upped the recycled content throughout the Nano-Air, from the lightweight, weather-shedding shell, to the comfortable plain-weave liner, to our warm-when-wet FullRange™ insulation—all with zero sacrifice in performance. The Nano-Air still manages variable temperatures to keep you comfortable throughout a range of conditions.

The woven textured yarn face fabric is soft, supple and durable, and better resists pilling than the original. Full mechanical stretch allows for a close, athletic fit over baselayers and total range of motion. At brew stops or in frigid conditions, pull on a lightweight shell and the Nano-Air’s thermal properties skyrocket. The left-chest pocket and two above-harness handwarmer pockets all close with trim, low-bulk zippers. The center-front zipper has a storm flap and zipper garage, a dual-adjustable drawcord hem seals in warmth and the Variable Conditions Cuffs have sleek, low-bulk stretch-knit insets that allow you to easily push up your sleeves. The jacket has a DWR (durable water repellent) finish to shed moisture.

Patagonia's Nano-Air Jacket takes a featherweight fabric and midweight 60g/m2 synthetic insulation and makes a jacket that provides an instant big hit of warmth in a superlight and very packable package. As always with Patagonia gear there's a very high quality finish to this garment. You get two hand-warmer pockets and a chest pocket, these make the jacket a bit more useful as a standalone piece but we think it would thrive as a beefy, winter midlayer.

In order to keep the weight down, there's no adjustment to the hem or cuffs, but these both have some elastication. This will do an OK job at keeping the warm air inside the jacket but could be improved in future iterations of this jacket.

Supremely cosy and breathable

Impressively breathable for a wide range of outdoor activities in the cold. It’s outer material is not that durable or weather resistant enough to be a proper outer layer but these properties lean towards better breathability. The insulation has a nice amount of stretch for improved comfort and against the skin it has a soft, almost cotton like feel. The fit can be a hard one to get right but I would say you could get your normal size if you want a thin fleece underneath it or go one lower if you want a more ‘performance’ fit. This is not a windproof or waterproof, it is a breathable insulation piece, under a shell I find this supremely comfortable and it regulates my temperature better than any thick fleece I have which can match its warmth. Thankfully this top is comfortable across a wide range of temperatures due to its breathability, meaning it takes the place of a midweight or heavier fleece when layering. One downside I see is the fragile nature of the outer fabric on the nano air, be careful not to get it snagged in any zippers as I think it will mark or tear if treated badly.
