A super-fast drying action layer that combines warmth and weather protection for the most demanding climbing and mountaineering.

Mountain Equipment says:

Lightweight 30D RS stretch outer fabric balances the moisture transfer required for running up exposed ice fields with the durability needed for rock climbing in the high mountains. The specially developed Octoyarn Warp-Knit lining offers insulation you can move fast in combined with rapid drying that will be appreciated on one day sprints and multi-day missions alike.

The Kinesis Jacket is Mountain Equipment's own highly breathable active insulation piece. It's about half the weight of similar active insulation pieces (such as Polartec Alpha) but only has around 40g/m2 of Warp-Knit Octoyarn insulation which is about half the warmth of some pieces.

The Octoyarn lining is a very fine fleece fabric that moves moisture rapidly and dries just as fast. It's designed to keep you comfortable through most temperatures and activities. The 30D stretch air permeable outer fabric offers a good amount of stretch and will work well under a shell in wet conditions.

The jacket offers good wind resistance but it's not fully windproof as it works by letting enough air through it to help it release moisture. Overall a very lightweight, versatile and highly breathable layer for active adventures.

A cool weather go-to jacket

I've been a big fan of the Rab Vapour Rise Alpine jacket but on occasions wanted something a little bit warmer without having to add layers. The Mountain Equipment Kinesis jacket seems to fill that role and so far I've been very impressed with it. The inner pile lining is incredibly comfortable against your skin if wearing a short sleeve baselayer. It also seems to wick unbelievably well. I get very sweaty when I'm working hard and have been amazed to find my baselayer virtually dry when normally it would be feeling pretty damp after a slog uphill. The outer shell does a great job of evaporating the moisture to the atmosphere - in really cold weather you can actually see the droplets of moisture on the surface where the fabric has carried sweat to the outside and it has condensed on the cool outer shell. Very impressive, it clearly works extremely well. The angled offset zip is genius, it makes the jacket much more comfortable when zipped up as the zip isn't against your chin. There are plenty of pockets to shove hands or phones etc. The fit is spot on for me and the sleeves are a great length, not too long but long enough not to expose my wrists when using trekking poles.
