Inspired by the world's best alpine climbers, Rab's Alpha Freak Pull-On is a unique and innovative body mapped midlayer specifically designed for moving fast in harsh conditions over many days.
A combination of fabrics from our strongest technology partners. Polartec® Alpha & Power Grid® & Pertex® Fabrics used in key areas to create a unique body mapped innovation within the midlayer category. Inspired by the latest ‘super alpine’ climbers.
Designed using a combination of innovative fabrics, Polartec® Alpha™ Direct 200 Insulation keeps your core warm, quickly wicking moisture, while Polartec® Power Grid® fabric on the waist, sides, underarm and cuff allow a full range of movement as well as easy layering with a harness, reducing bulk. The under helmet hood is made with Pertex® Quantum outer and Polartec® Power Grid® which blocks the wind, keeps out spin drift, and dries quickly, preventing the hood from freezing. Designed with a streamlined slim fit, other features include a half length front zip to quickly dump heat, storm flap, chin guard, and one zipped chest pocket.
Seemingly simple, this light but effective pull-on is the ultimate alpine midlayer, continuing our tradition of innovation inspired by decades of experience in the mountains.

Rab's Alpha Freak Pull-On is basically the next step on from the Alpha Flash. Instead of just using more Polartec Alpha breathable insulation (a more modern version of a lightweight fleece, that keeps you warm but lets sweat out, even when active) it incorporates Polartec Power Grid fabric into key areas for a better range of movement. This jacket also has an added bonus of an insulated yet wind-resistant hood for extra protection.
Obviously with the extra insulation, fabrics and hood it's going to be slightly heavier than the Flash, an extra 118 grams to be exact (based on size M), but for a versatile warm and breathable midlayer we would say it's spot on for weight.
It's important to note that these types of breathable insulated jackets are designed to be worn when you are active - so on the move - there are alternative insulation garments that are more suited to wearing around camp - Polartec Alpha is about keeping you vented even though you are also being kept insulated. In truth the insulation value is quite moderate so it only really comes into its own when you are exerting yourself and you need insulation but can easily get clammy if the garment doesn't breath.
