Marmot's ROM Jacket uses Gore Windstopper softshell fabric where you need it and highly breathable and super stretchy fabric under the arms for complete freedom of movement and high breathability.
Marmot says: Welcome to Range of Motion. This zonally constructed jacket uses air permeable Marmot M2 softshell and updated GORE WINDSTOPPER with new wicking interior to create an incredibly comfortable, breathable garment that’s also windproof and water-resistant.
Marmot’s big mountain heritage shows in every detail of this Swiss army knife of softshells.
WINDSTOPPER performs well in outdoor activities, such as hiking, backpacking, cycling, hunting, mountain sports, skiing, snowboarding and trekking where weather conditions might include strong winds, light snow and rain. It retains heat not moisture and is 2 1/2 times warmer in 30mph wind than traditional fleece with no loss to breathability. And because its 'easy care', you can wash it in your machine.
![]() | | | A leading pioneer of Softshells, Marmot created the M Series to offer a wide array of softshell fabric technologies and construction. The M Series fabrics are designed for moving light and fast. They combine stretchable, water repellent, abrasion resistant and highly breathable shell materials with insulating buffer materials on the inside. M2 Softshells offer a great balance between weather resistance, breathability and thermal protection; excellent for a wide range of aerobic activities in moderate conditions.. |

Marmot's ROM Jacket is a highly accomplished softshell which uses fabric zoning to get the best breathability aligned to weather resistance in the panels that need it most, so there's full Gore Windstopper softshell material in the body, the top surface of the arms and the hood. The inside arm panels are highly breathable and super stretchy so you will expel heat and moisture easily, and won't feel restricted when moving your arms.
The cut is Athletic, which for Marmot means a close fitting garment.
There's a good selection of pockets, including one internal breast pocket (and one external). Because of the pocket configuration the inside of the front panels has a high wicking mesh liner - essentially the body of the pocket.
We like the hood because it can be cinched around the head, but we're not mad on the peak, which is quite soft rather than stiff. Velcro cuffs and drawcord hem keep things tight - its a good jacket, and with Marmot quality we're confident the weather shedding properties will be up to scratch.
