Warm, stretchy and breathable like our Regulator fleece, but with the added benefits of abrasion and weather resistance. This cool-weather crosslayer was designed for extended versatility in shifting mountain conditions.
Like an R1® with extra grit, our TechFace Hoody maintains fleece-like comfort while extending itself into scrappy days on rock, snow and ice. The stretchy, lightweight double-weave fabric (partially recycled polyester, with spandex) offers significantly more wind resistance and durability than our traditional R1®, and its articulated pattern further encourages a full range of mountain mobility. An under-the-helmet hood with laminated visor provides low-profile coverage and visibility through shoulder-season squalls. Detailing includes a pair of high, zippered handwarmer pockets (with venting mesh), an external zippered left-chest pocket and our sleek, low-bulk, easy push-up stretch-knit Variable Conditions Cuffs. The adjustable hem snugs via cords routed through the pockets, and the DWR (durable water repellent) finish sheds excess moisture.

Newly refined for 2020, Patagonia's 2020 R1 TechFace Hoody has undergone some slight changes that have streamlined the jacket, resulting in a more focussed piece. The 2020 R1 Techface retains the wind and water resistance of its predecessor while managing to shave grams and refine the fit. An excellent softshell for climbing hard in changeable conditions, the R1 Techface is a tried-and-tested mountain classic.
Built for climbing, the R1 Techface is at home in the vertical. With a slimline hood that’s comfortable under a helmet and stretch knit cuffs, this is an exceptionally comfortable softshell that leans towards the fleece end of the spectrum. The abrasion resistance is class-leading, and the zippered handwarmer pockets are placed high on the body, all the better to fit under a harness. While this is an exceptional piece for moving on rock, hikers may be better suited by layering a Houdini over a standard R1, to create a more flexible and more weather-resistant combination.
