Montane's Extreme range is designed to provide superior warmth in cold conditions but also to keep the user as comfortable as possible with excellent wicking capabilities.

Montane says:

The Extreme Jacket has become a modern outdoor classic. The first truly technical softshell, single layer mountain jacket. Designed and built without compromise. Tested in extreme, hostile conditions for over 20 years by mountaineers, climbers and on multiple high Arctic and Antarctic expeditions, both the Extreme Jacket and Extreme Smock have become trusted favourites of Mountain Rescue teams and outdoor professionals across the world.

The Montane Extreme Jacket is designed to be a no-nonsense ultra-tough fleece lined softshell designed to be worn next to the skin - or over a thin baselayer - in winter conditions. Without the flexibility of a layering system the Extreme jacket is designed to be vented by the wearer when its considerable insulation is not fully required.

Although a heavy garment it is virtually indestructable and will therefore be first choice where reliability is of paramount importance.

Very warm coat for active hiking

I use this coat for hiking on frosty days.
Its far to warm to use for active hiking when its above zero - but below zero it comes in to its own.

Lovely warm lining and wind resistant outer. I was out in the coat in 30 MPH winds at zero degrees and I was still warm.

The fleece lined hood is very good - stays on your head and easy to adjust for use in high winds.

The arms however are quite narrow - keeps out the drafts but so tight I can't wear a watch! 5 stars if it wasn't for the thin arm
