The Ascendor Light Shorts are a lightweight Matrix double weave short with a slim fitting stretch waist band, perfect for summer climbing and long hot multi-pitch routes.
Our Ascendor Light Short is built for ultimate freedom on strenuous summer ascents. At 133gsm, the advanced two-layer Matrix™ softshell is the lightest double-weave stretch fabric we use. It comprises a tightly woven exterior for excellent abrasion resistance and weather protection. In tandem with the lofted internal layer, that helps wick the moisture away from your skin, keeping you comfortable when working hard on exposed rock. Built for lightweight mountaineering, summer climbing and long, hot multi-pitch routes, the diamond gusset makes best possible use of the fabric’s inherent stretch.
In addition to a rear pocket and pair of mesh-lined hand pockets with secure zips, the new pant uses tough twin-needle top stitching and a reinforced hem for extra durability on long, challenging days at the rockface.

Rab's Ascendor Light Shorts use lightweight Matrix softshell fabric which has a good amount of stretch to provide comfort. The shorts have a gusseted crotch and use an elasticated waistband for comfortable fit, this is really beneficial when going uphill, climbing or scrambling. The design is simple but effective and the material is allows them to perform really well across a range of conditions.
The three pockets are all a useful size and they all have zip closures, something you don't always get on outdoor shorts. These provide great durability for such lightweight shorts and when this is combined with the breathability and quick drying nature of the stretchy material they are great all-round shorts. They have worked well for all activities we've used them for, from fast packing and a bit of trail running through to scrambling and climbing.
