A venerated alpine essential, the R1 Hoody remains the optimal hooded midlayer for the full spectrum of mountain endeavors—made with light and breathable Polartec Power Grid for outstanding stretch, compressibility and durability with Polygiene permanent odor control.
(Unfortunately, we are unable to ship Patagonia products outside of the European Area (defined as the European Economic Area plus Switzerland and the UK))
After more than 15 years of cranking, our R1 fabric is still the gold standard for alpine efficiency. Its high/low grid interior (Polartec Power Grid polyester) is key to the hoody’s versatility, and the highly refined fabric—the lightest and most breathable iteration ever—remains exclusive to Patagonia. It stretches, traps heat and compresses to practically nothing, with the pared-down but versatile features that climbers and backcountry skiers need: a snug-fitting balaclava-style hood; a minimalist, deep-venting front zipper with a soft zipper garage that keeps your chin comfy; and a variable-conditions cuff with discreet on-seam thumb holes and a spiral-stitch construction so you can push up the sleeves with no ensuing forearm pump. With off-shoulder seams for pack-wearing comfort, a long torso for layering under a harness, an exterior chest pocket and Polygiene permanent odor control.

|Fair Trade Certified™|
We pay a premium for every Fair Trade Certified item that carries our label. That extra money goes directly to the workers at the factory, and they decide how to spend it. The program also promotes worker health and safety and social and environmental compliance, and encourages dialog between workers and management. Fair Trade is one of the first tools we’re using at Patagonia to raise workers’ wages, improve their standard of living and move them closer to earning a living wage.
We use PrimaLoft® insulation inside insulated garments for its warmth, compressibility, and soft comfort. While the human body uses energy to stay warm, PrimaLoft insulation uses a patented microfiber structure to help the body retain warmth and conserve energy.
The proprietary ultra-fine fibers of PrimaLoft insulation form a tight collection of air pockets that trap heat from your body and keep the cold out, providing an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. When insulation gets wet, it loses these air pockets and consequently, its insulating properties. PrimaLoft ultra-fine fibers were developed to be water resistant so your insulation stays drier and maintains its insulating properties even when wet.
The classic Patagonia R1 Hoody is a great mid layer and technical fleece capable of performing across a wide variety of activities. The Polartec Power Grid feels strange if you're not used to it but it soon becomes comfortable. The performance of the Power Grid shows in its ability to provide a high level of breathability without sacrificing warmth. It is light and stretchy making the R1 easy to pull on or stuff into your pack whenever you need to.
The high, balaclava style hood is a great feature along with the extended arms with comfy thumb loops and longer torso length so it can stay tucked into a harness. This fleece works well no matter what activities you are doing which is a massive plus and means you will keep digging this one out and using it for everything from hill walking to climbing, skiing to just going to the pub in.
