UOG TOP PICK - Mountain Hardwear Desna Grid Jackets - Breathable fleece with stretch panels - We've singled out Mountain Hardwear's Desna Grid Jackets as one of our top recommendations because they are made from high performing Polartec PowerDry combined with a durable 'Hard-Face' fleece at strategic points.

The Desna Grid Jacket combines the insulation and breathability of Polartec PowerDry with the comfort and durability of 'Hard-Face' stretch fleece to create a technical and flexible fleece jacket suitable for wearing whilst active.

Mountain Hardwear says: Attractive, versatile fleece that’s especially comfortable under a pack.

The Desna Grid Hooded is a great all-around jacket. It can serve as a top layer for hiking on a crisp fall day, or as a midlayer under a more technical outer shell on a weekend of climbing.

Hardface fleece in the sides, arms, and shoulders offers increased resistance to wind and abrasions.

Mountain Hardwear's Desna Grid Jacket uses Polartec PowerDry to create a fleece that's warm, yet breathes exceptionally well to help keep you dry and comfortable. Power Dry achieves this performance by having a grid pattern on the inner face - the centre of each grid cell is raised fleece to create the warmth, whilst between the cells there's no insulation - creating channels for perspiration to escape.

Bottom line with PowerDry is that it works - either next to skin or over a thin baselayer a PowerDry top makes an ideal three season outer layer - or 'only-layer'.

The Desna Grid Jacket enhances a standard PowerDry top with the addition of stretch microfleece on the shoulders and down the sides. This enhances freedom of movement whilst providing more protection in these areas - these panels have a 'hard face' surface on the outside - this resists damage much better than other fleece.

With two strategically placed handwarmer pockets, a chest pocket and thumb loops the Desna Grid Jacket is a highly technical fleece that will keep you warm and comfortable even during activity.

Desna Grid Hooded

This jacket is pretty good.
I would consider it a lightweight fleece.

Its Power Grid structure, sheds moisture and sweat easily. The shoulders and sleeves are more durable and stretchy.
I have been wearing it on the bike too,you can feel the airflow in your armpits, which is nice.

It has generous pockets, and they are not placed in awkward position.
Good durable zipper.
The hood is a bit large (that could be negative).
Fit is good ( 157 lbs-Medium)

Downsides:too long sleeves,if you dont use thumbloops.
Not great warmth-to weight.
My 200 gr down jacket is quite warmer.

Bottomline: A rich featured lightweight fleece, that breathes well, use it when highly active .
