Mountain Hardwear's Hatcher Full Zip Hoody is a staple outdoor essential with a smooth outer and internal grid fleece lined design for complete cold-weather comfort.
Mountain Hardwear says:
Climb, backpack, and live comfortably in this wool-faced, mid-weight, full zip hoody. The low chest pocket is a nod to our heritage fleeces, while its durability, comfort, and functionality are Mountain Hardwear staples.
Mountain Hardwear don't provide a lot of technical info for the Hatcher Full Zip Hoody, which is a shame as it could end up being bought by the wrong user. This jacket combines the soft and breathable feel from an internal grid fleece with the weather resistant qualities of a wool faced outer. This adds durability to the fleece but it also adds to the overall bulk and weight so you wouldn't want to use it for lightweight trekking/backpacking trips.
We would say this jacket is better suited to light walking in Autumn/Winter or wearing around the crags. I would also use it as a stand-alone piece rather than as part of a layering system, due to the bulk design. Feature-wise you have two handwarmer pockets and one zip pocket positioned just a little below your chest. The hood, cuffs and hem are all elasticated with no adjustment so you would want to make sure you get the right size to prevent unwanted drafts - we would say this is a little on the large size so you might be better with a size below your normal, especially if you only plan on wearing a t-shirt underneath.
Overall If you're looking for a crag or around town fleece with a little extra weather protection and classic wool stylings, then the Hatcher will do the trick nicely.
