The Filament Hoody super lightweight, high wicking, technical fitting fleece designed for active mountain use.
Where high-output sport meets cold mountain weather, you’ll find our Filament Hoody. With lightweight, fast-wicking Thermic™ fleece, it is the ideal midlayer for steep alpine ascents, backcountry ski tours and Big Mountain adventure.
Our Filament Hoody is made from Thermic™ fabric, an engineered fleece designed to be light, warm, durable and quick drying. Comprising recycled polyester with 7% elastane for easy stretch, it features a full-length YKK® front zip for easy venting on the move, plus a secure YKK® zipped chest pocket and a warm under-helmet hood. While discreet thumb loops help keep your hands warm and your sleeves in place, the use of low-profile seams helps ease the friction between layers, improving comfort against the skin and eradicating chafe points during intense mountain activities.
As part of our Ascent range, the Filament Hoody comes with a layer-friendly low-bulk fit and a weight of just 274g. Warm, flexible and dry, it is as practical for ski mountaineering as it is for technical winter climbs.

Rab's Filament Hoody uses a lightweight, breathable, ribbed fleece fabric that is designed to trap more warm air than regular fleece, making this type of fabrics perform better than heavier, traditional fleece designs. It's also designed to wick sweat more effectively than standard fleece fabrics, which it does manage even when you're heating up on ascents or higher intensity sessions.
This fleece initially feels more of a mid-layer but it also works really well as a next-to-skin base layer for when your long-sleeve tees are not providing enough warmth in cold conditions. Admittedly it has seen more use as a spring/summer midlayer when trekking in milder conditions. The simple hooded design allows you to add a little more coverage and warmth while the full length zip makes temperature regulation much easier.
