With a unique discontinuous line design the smart casual DS jacket has further developed the StretchDown series allowing more stretch and trapping more heat. The distinctive style of the StretchDown DS provides a really comfortable and warm down jacket with 150g of 800 Fill Power hydrophobic down.

Mountain Hardwear says:

An even stretchier version of our instant classic StretchDown Jacket. The DS (Dynamic Stretch) breaks free of the grid pattern with standout style and discontinuous lines featuring groundbreaking stretch-welded channel construction that traps more warmth than standard stitching.

This product is certified to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) by Control Union.

Mountain Hardwear's StretchDown DS Jacket provides a good amount of warmth from the 150g of 800 Fill Power down. The down used has been treated with Nikwax making in hydrophobic, meaning that it stays warmer for longer in damp conditions and is able to dry faster. The style of the jacket is firstly down to the stretch welded panels which allow it to trap more warmth than the standard stitched jackets. Added to this is the discontinuous line design which allows more stretch in the jacket, and you can feel this straight away, cutting down on cold spots.

The jacket has two good sized hand pockets and a smaller chest pocket all with zips for added security. There are also two large drop pockets internally for you to store gloves, hats or any other bulky items for keeping you warm. This non-hooded version looks really smart and does not look out of place when worn around town and this jacket is already looking like it will be the jacket of choice this winter.

Excellent mid-weight down jacket

Beautifully made mid-weight down jacket. Good warmth for the weight and outer shell is very robust for a down jacket. With the innovative stretch fabric, it even manages to avoid the usual 'Michelin' man look of most down jackets. In fact, it's by some margin the nicest looking down jacket I've ever tried. This isn't my prime concern, however, and doesn't seem to compromise performance, offering a little more warmth than I was expecting for a jacket of this weight. The cut is relatively slim/fitted, so you might want to size up if you are between sizes or intend to layer up with anything more than a base layer and light fleece. One big advantage is the jacket is not at all bulky and layers very well underneath a waterproof shell or heavier winter jacket, so offers a lot of flexibility in changeable weather. For this reason, I think it's particularly well suited to 4 season camping in the UK, which is my main interest.

Such a good down jacket that I purchased my wife the ladies version. Have been on many hikes since I have had this jacket, very warm and fitted but packs down nicely if I need to take a layer off. Most important part for me is the jacket is water resistant. I have been caught in quick showers and also had it wet from condensation when wearing with a shell and the down has barely been affected, it stays warm and effective. This to me is vital as condensation with a waterproof shell is unavoidable in winter when hiking hard in heavy rain and showers. To summarise the water resistance, warmth, fit and weight makes this the best down jacket I have owned to date. 5 stars.
