A technical insulation piece that is ideal for layering. Lightweight, low bulk and slim, minimalist design. It's perfect for keeping you warm without reducing your mobility or taking up too much space.

Montane's Starlight Down Pull-on is an interesting piece of kit. At first it simply looks like a lightweight down top with minimal features. However, it was designed by one of the worlds top alpinists as a very specific layering piece. Once you understand the point of this top you will start to appreciate how good it is. I was unconvinced by the style of it on first inspection but when using it as a layer it is easier to understand how well these aspects of the design work.
There are two sets of zips on each side to vest effectively while the half length zip at the front works well for regulating temperature too. A single, internal zip pocket gives you an safe place to store a phone, GPS or another small piece of kit but otherwise this is a very minimalist design. The lack of a collar was the first thing that stood out but once you've got it on under something the reduced bulk around your neck is really comfortable and practical. The cut of the arms is a bit looser than I would like for a jacket with this specific design but otherwise it is a good athletic fit that sits well under a shell.
