The Pyro Down jacket from Crux gives you exceptional warmth for its weight thanks to 180g of the best quality down money can buy housed in a box wall construction.

Crux says:

We will be bold here and say it outright: for its weight, the Pyro is by far the warmest jacket you will find anywhere. The secret to its warmth lies not so much in the amount of down it contains, which actually is not a lot (180 g of 850 (EU) Polish goose down), but due to the fact that – uniquely for such a lightweight jacket – the Pyro features a box-wall baffle construction. This makes the Pyro considerably warmer than jackets with far more down but still featuring stitch-through baffles that leak heat like a colander drains water. Of course there is one downside – jackets with a box-wall construction take much longer to sew and this this is reflected in their higher cost. The benefit, however, is that you have a lighter, more compact and more thermally efficient jacket.

We have modified the Pyro jacket with the chest pocket now on the inside, and the hood as been upgraded to fit over climbing helmets.

Crux's Pyro Down Jacket is built around providing maximum warmth for the minimum of weight. 915+ fill power is amongst the best quality down possible and is responsibly sourced. The Crux Halo jacket has slightly better quality down but the Pyro has box wall construction making it even warmer as it eliminates the cold spots of sewn baffles.

The box wall construction and exceptionally high quality down are the key ingredients of this lightweight insulation piece. The water resistant outer is quite tough at 20 denier. The wired peak hood is helmet compatible and can be adjusted in size with 2 draw cords around the neck. The wrists have velcro adjustment and there is a drawcord in the hem.

The Pyro has 2 zipped handwarmer pockets a with a further chest pocket. A stuff sac is included. A decent sized internal down baffle prevents heat loss through the zip.

Terrible design

I purchased this crux product and the manufacturers hype about it being warm was absolutely correct. It's very warm, probably the warmest I have ever tested. Unfortunately due to a silly oversight in the design I found it unusable and was forced to get a refund. The adjustments on the hood cannot be fixed so that the hood does not fall over your eyes if you are not wearing a helmet. The crux has a large hood which is great for helmets only. But there is no way to see where you are going without. THERE IS NO WAY TO HOLD THE HOOD BACK WITHOUT A HELMET
