The Black Ice Jacket is made from Primaloft Gold Insulation. The blend of down and synthetic insulation combines the warmth and packability of down with the fast drying and ‘warm when wet’ properties of synthetic fill.
The Black Ice Jacket is the most versatile down jacket ever created. Designed for rugged mountaineering days, it utilises PrimaLoft® GOLD Insulation Down Blend that enables the insulation to dry faster and stay warmer for longer.
It features zoned boxwall panels in the main body helping to reduce the number of cold spots and creating evenly filled panels of high quality goose down and synthetic blend. Combined with stitch through construction in the sleeves for low bulk and increased freedom of movement. The Black Ice is perfect for cold winter days and nights either on the move or resting.

Montane's Black Ice Jacket has had a few changes since it first launched, changing it's name every time which has probably left a few people confused with the difference's between each one.
It first started out as the Black Ice Jacket which featured 250g of 800+ Fill Power Down with a Freeflow Ultralite outer. It then changed to the Black Ice 2.0 Jacket which featured 250g of Primaloft Gold Insulation Down Blend with the same freeflow Ultralite outer. Now they have gone back to the original name, the Black Ice Jacket, still featuring 250g of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Down Blend Fill but with a Barrier Lite RS outer.
You would expect that by changing the outer, they did so to improve the performance. However after researching and comparing the Freeflow Ultralite with the Barrier Lite RS, there doesn't seam to be much of a difference, other than the name. Both provide good wind and water resistant protection using 20 denier ripstop fabric. They have continued with the down blend fill as it offers excellent insulation, even when wet.
Overall, as they basically kept it the same, and haven't changed the price tag, we don't mind the change as the new colours are pretty snazy.
