UOG TOP PICK - Outdoor Research's Deviator Hoodie - Hybrid Baselayer and Synthetic Insulator - We've singled out Outdoor Research's Deviator Hoodie as one of our top recommendations because we think it quite unique. It crosses between a heavyweight baselayer and synthetic insulated jacket - grabbing the best of both. Styling is pretty good as well.
Outdoor Research's Deviator Hoodie combines Polartec breathable Alpha insulation on the front of the garment with Polartec Power Dry elsewhere creating a garment that provides zoned warmth whilst you're active.
Outdoor Research says: Combining cutting-edge fabric and Polartec Alpha insulation technologies with our Hybrid Mapped construction ensures the lightly insulated Deviator Hoody provides the perfect amount of air permeability and warmth where each is needed most.
This state-of-the-art insulation dries quickly, retains warmth and circulates airflow around the torso for incredible breathability, and Polartec Power Dry High Efficiency in the hood, sleeves and back panel wicks moisture and keeps you comfortable.
||||Polartec Alpha, Overheating is Underperforming - So unlike traditional synthetic fill or down, Polartec Alpha allows a free exchange of air to keep you warm, comfortable and focused. Developed for U.S. Special Operations and now available for outdoor enthusiasts, it takes performance fabric—and you—to a totally new place. Click the Logo to read more...|
Polartec Power Dry - Polartec Power Dry fabrics are designed to keep your skin dry when you sweat. Outdoor Research's Deviator Hoodie is a really interesting garment, most of it is Polartec Power Dry (Power Grid) which is a high wicking, high breathability insulator worn either next to skin or over a thin baselayer. In the Deviator Hoodie this is teamed up with Polartec Alpha insulation on the jacket front and a nylon shell to block the wind and keep it all in place.
Practically what you have is a garment with higher insulation on the front torso with less insulation on the arms, back and hood - and both insulation levels are using highly breathable systems which means you can use this garment confidently when engaging in high activity. Therefore its an ideal, practical, insulation piece to pull on while on the move - we're thinking towards the end of the day when it cools down but you haven't got off the mountain yet!
Feature-wise the hood is a simple affair with binding around the face edge, the front zip is backed by a weather flap and there are two hand pockets. There are thumb loops at the sleeve ends, its a nicely finished garment with an 'edgy' look to it.
