Our Verdict
Platypus' QuickDraw Microfilter & Reservoir System includes a lightweight and easily packable 1L reservoir in addition to the QuickDraw filter. The reservoir comes with an additional cap so you can store water in it for later without having the filter attached all the time. It's a really practical addition for just 42g extra and it usually takes the place of a bulkier and heavier water bottle on the trails.
The QuickDraw Microfilter itself is exactly that, a very small filter weighing just 68g and measuring just under 13cm in length with a 4cm diameter. It uses hundreds of tiny hollow fibres to filter to quickly clean up to 3L of water per minute but this is when it is working at 100% so usually the flow rate is less than this but even after a lot of use the rate is decent enough. For such a lightweight piece of kit it is seriously durable and should keep going with regular cleaning and a bit of care. It is quick and easy to clean with a simple shake with clean water or a backflush (with no need for any tools).
You can use this filter as a straw directly at the water source or attach it to a bottle of water to drink easily. The filter can be combined with a range of Platypus hydration options or other branded bottles with a 28mm screw top opening. It safely removes 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.9% of protozoa, including Giardia, Cryptosporidium, E. coli, Salmonella and Cholera.
