As good as it's weakest link

It would appear that many people have the same criticism - the cap. Clearly the filter is excellent but is rendered essentially useless as the cap snaps off with too little effort. I am VERY careful with equipment but this thing managed to soak a full rucksack and ruin a trip. At best a nuisance, at worse dangerous. Katadyn must sort this out.

Its simple, clean water whenever you need it

I spent years carrying extra water, and therefore extra weight. I hike in the UK, so there's always water around. So, one day after reading about true rivalry between sawer and katadyn, I went for it. So lets begin. I used to carry two 1L Nalgene's, one for drinking and one for emergencies. Now, I carry one Nalgene, and this 0.6L bag. I can confidently drink as much water as I want, because I know that I literally cant run out. Its probably helped because now I have no 'water anxiety' and dont have to ration my supply of clean water. The best thing about this is the built in bag, and good flow rate. It's so simple, unscrew the filter, dip down and fill the bag, screw it on, and you're off making as much clean water as you could ever dream of. I often use it to top up my Nalgene, but if I know I am not going to be near a stream I can flexibly add 0.6L to my overall water carrying capacity if I want to. Also, cleaning the filter is easy, no back flushing with a syringe, just fill the bag, and shake it. The flow rate feels like you're just drinking from a water bottle, you would hardly tell you're sucking through a filter. It takes no time at all to fill an empty water bottle. The water also tastes fine from the filter, you might still get some colouration, but its fine because after a while you really learn to trust the filter. I still say to go do your research about good practices for filtering water, always check your water source, fill from a high flow area where possible and avoid water from areas where there's farming and agriculture. Oh, and lastly, the water bag feels very strong. I have kept it inside a bag along side other bits of kit and haven't been concerned by potential punctures, and I have scraped it and dropped it many many times. If you can spare the money, grab the 1L version, but if you're gram counting, or short for cash because you spend your whole wage on this website, grab the 0.6L version and carry a bottle to help increase capacity.
