The MSR Freelite 2 is a freestanding, lightweight and fully featured 3 season tent designed for backpackers and adventures who pursue all kinds of activities.

MSR says:

Designed to lighten your pack load on multiday and weekend backcountry trips, the FreeLite 2 saves you time and energy to pursue your outdoor activities. Whether you’re planning to pedal the Kokopelli Trail or climb a favorite route on an overnight backpacking trip, this ultralight, fully-featured double-wall tent lets you to perform at your highest level. Its unified semi-freestanding frame sets up quickly and offers a roomy interior, lots of ventilation and two large doors for easy access—all the comfort, without all the weight.

Whats great about the MSR Freelite Tents is that they are free standing, double wall tents that provides full protection without a big weight penalty and packs down small so it won't take up much room in your pack.

All FreeLite tents have been updated with MSR's strongest tent poles - Easton Syclone Poles. They are made from aerospace composite materials which resist breaking in fierce winds, boosting the reliability of your tent. The flysheet has also been treated with an ultra-durable waterproof coating called Xtreme Shield which lasts 3 times longer than standard coatings (check out the attached video).

Both of these updates are a huge welcome as the two small drawbacks we had with the previous models have now been solved.

When weight is a critical factor but livability also matters in your choice of a tent, MSR's ultralight FreeLite Tents are an ideal choice and a great option for a weekend backcountry trip or two-week thru-hike.

If you would like a footprint for this tent you will need the MSR Universal 2 Footprint (sold separately).

I'm an idiot and I can put it up

So you want a great quality tent that you can put up in the dark in the rain and be cosy and undercover in 5 minutes without having an advanced degree in engineering? This is your tent. We bought this on the recommendation of the staff at Ultralight Outdoor Gear and have tested it in the most inhospitable places on earth: Somerset in mid-Summer. It is (as you'd expect) lightweight. It is easy to put up (twilight, no instructions, first time, took 5 minutes). Assembled and taken down in the rain but no stress, no mess. The parts are good quality - we bought extra lightweight pegs and would recommend you do the same. The naff metal ones (only slight issue) that come with the tent are fine but you'll soon bend them. It is roomy in the right places, tall enough to allow you to fidget and fuss about with getting undressed etc. Next test: the Yucatan interior.
