Exped's Orion series tents are truly freestanding, even the vestibules, with all poles rooted at ground level they are stable, roomy and spacious.

Exped says:

High wind stability and spacious. A trusted tent for multi day treks and extended trips. Two high doors for easy access and two large vestibules with ample storage space. The full length ridge pole reaches the ground for enhanced wind stability and also creates a high canopy with comfortable living space.

The Orion offers maximum space as a tunnel tent in a fully freestanding design! Double doors and large vestibules add comfort, storage space and great ventilation. In fact Orion II is the perfect expedition tent.

Functional layout: Two large vestibules and entrances offer storage spaces that are accessed easily even from within a sleeping bag. The canopy height is generous enough to sit out days of foul weather.

Exped 4 Season Trekking Tent Category explained at Ultralight Outdoor Gear|This tent is one of Exped's 4 Season TREKKING tents - Whatever the weather these 4 season tents are designed to withstand the rigors. Simple and quick setups thanks to exo-skeleton designs with pole sleeves on the rainfly. Refined details and fabrics with durability and longevity in mind. These are the go-anywhere tents in the Exped lineup.

Exped's Orion series tents are among their most stable. With various pole configurations across the Exped range the poles in the Orion series all reach the ground - on many tents additional poles are used to support the inner tent and canopy to deliver spacious headroom - in the case of the Orion tents the longitudinal pole does this job but also extends down to the floor for considerable added stability.

The tents are pretty spacious too, with internal head height of 125cm on the two person the fairly standard sized footprint feels more spacious due to the internal volume created. The standard Orion tents are rated for 4 season trekking and the Orion Extreme series are rated as expedition tents, so the materials chosen are at the high strength, high performance end of the spectrum - the groundsheets are 70Denier (a measure of the weight and hence thickness of a fabric) which is about the highest you'll see on a lightweight tent. The flysheets are 40Denier, PU coated and factory seam sealed, the poles are 9mm thick.

The Orion Extreme tents are slightly lighter in weight than the standard Orion tents even though they achieve a higher rating, this is because the difference between the two is design rather than materials. The Extreme tents have redesigned pole sleeves designed to maximise stability in windy conditions. They are also more expensive.
