Exped's Orion series tents are truly freestanding, even the vestibules, with all poles rooted at ground level they are stable, roomy and spacious.
Exped says:
The Orion III UL expands our range with a strong and freestanding tent made for adventures in which weight and shelter from the elements is key. Besides its proven stability, it also offers comfortable canopy height and steep side walls. The canopy can be sealed completely with fabric doors increasing warmth retention in cold climates and preventing dust from entering in arid regions. The canopy accommodates 3 M or 2 LW mats.

This tent is one of Exped's 3 Season TREKKING tents - Tents designed for moderate and warm climate zones featuring large mesh panels for enhanced ventilation. The grey mesh is inconspicuous and allows panoramic views. Large vestibules offer ample dry storage space. High doors enable easy access to the inner tent. Globetrotters and hikers will enjoy the low weights combined with generous living space.
Exped's Orion series tents are among their most stable. With various pole configurations across the Exped range the poles in the Orion series all reach the ground - on many tents additional poles are used to support the inner tent and canopy to deliver spacious headroom - in the case of the Orion tents the longitudinal pole does this job but also extends down to the floor for considerable added stability.
The tents are pretty spacious too, with internal head height of 125cm on the two person the fairly standard sized footprint feels more spacious due to the internal volume created. The standard Orion tents are rated for 4 season trekking and the Orion Extreme series are rated as expedition tents, the UL utilises even lighter fabric which knocks it into the 3 season category but it is still a very strong design that will withstand a battering.
