Big Agnes's Copper Hotel HV UL tents share the leading edge fabrics and materials of the Copper Spur range and add the versatility of a large extended porch while retaining a second 'back door', yet only add 300grams the the weight of the standard tent.

Big Agnes says:

Three season, free standing, ultralight tents.

Part of our best-selling Copper Spur series, the full-featured, ultralight Copper Hotel HV UL is designed for easy living in the backcountry with a massive vestibule attached to the fly and a high volume hub to maximize strength and increase living space without adding weight. Large dual zipper doors, steep wall architecture, and an incredibly functional large vestibule for added dry storage make backcountry trips with a smelly partner - or three - more comfortable than you may have thought possible.

Big Agnes's Copper Hotel HV UL3 Tent is simply a standard Copper Spur HV UL3 with an extended vestibule supported by an extra pole, but what makes it stand out from similar designs from other manufacturers is that it only weighs 1.9Kg, this is a remarkable feat for such a large tent as many manufacturers lose focus on the ultralight aspect when making tents with larger porches.

Another feature lacking in similar tents is the double doors - by retaining the second doorway at the back of the tent flexibility is much better - if using the tent as a spacious two person both occupants can still have their own entrance and storage area or you can choose which door you get out of depending on prevailing weather conditions.

Add to this the 'state of the art' fabrics, poles and construction that is standard across the Copper Spur range and you have an amazing tent that's ideal for long backpacking trips or bikepacking where extra space is a real advantage.

Review Summary - 5 out of 5 based on 1 rating.

Excellent light weight fair weather tent, a bit delicate though

There are a few negative points in this review but I would buy this tent again irrespective of the failings.
For the last 30 years or so I have used either a Wild Country Quasar or Hilleburg Jannu when cycle touring. Both excellent tents but overkill for cycling in the spring and autumn in the Mediterranean. I wanted a lighter fair weather tent with plenty of porch space and the Big Agnes Copper Hotel HV UL3 seemed ideal. I looked at the 2 person version but the floor size was smaller than my 2 person Quasar and so I opted for the 3 person version which is only 300g heavier. The inner of the tent is very spacious for 2. Three in the tent might feel a bit tight. The mainly mesh inner is cool in warm weather, perfect for a Mediterranean tour. The porch is massive. It has been a real pleasure to be able to line up all the panniers and pull out the one I want rather than having to rifle through a stack of panniers in a small porch.
Now for the negative points. The fabric really expands when wet and although you can set the tent up taut when dry it can then sag in the rain and water can pool above the porch door. This can be refreshing if you don’t notice and open the door in the night. On the other hand if you set the tent up taut when wet the pegs can pull out the ground when it dries. I hope a bit of shock cord will solve this problem. Next, when the tent is dry the short cross pole is hard to fit into the pockets in the outer. The stitching one of the pockets has already begun to give. The rip-stop nylon has begun to fail next to one of the zips on the inner tent after a couple of weeks of use. Only 10 pegs with a £570 tent when there 15 guy point, come on. The tent uses a DAC pole system which gives more head room at one end of the tent but my partner likes to look out the porch door when she has breakfast. The means that we usually have to sleep the wrong way round in the tent. There is plenty of head room this way round so why bother with a pole system when 2 separate poles would do the job and save the faff of folding an X shape pole. The pole system just seems to be solving a problem that doesn’t exist. One trip in the Copper Hotel has probably caused as much wear to the tent as a couple of decades of use for my Quasar. I suppose you can’t have light and durable. Oh yes, colour – I went to a tent show some time ago and noticed that all the yellow and orange tents had many more insects in than the green tents. The Copper Hotel certainly attracts insects. How about a green version?
