Not your avergae tent footprint, full protection for the TFS Dawn Tent inner tent with the added functionality of the zippered, cut-away cooking are in the centre of the footprint.
The Free Spirits Tents says:
Separate sleeping room and storage space created by special ground sheet with zipper which can be unzipped at the center for cooking.
Modern tents are designed to be used quite successfully without a footprint and we would only recommend taking one if you expect to be camping on quite stony ground or you want to actively extend the life of your tent and don't mind the extra weight.
Using a footprint makes your tent floor last a lot longer than not using one. This one is designed for the The Free Spirit Tent's Dawn Tent Footprint. It has a zippered, semi-circle section in the centre of the footprint. The theory is that you can open this area up to the bare ground and cook on this patch of ground without the danger of damaging the footprint with any heat from your stove. All the while you're partially protected from the weather under your flysheet as you need to leave the door open to vent the fumes.
