Big Agnes's Scout Plus UL 2 is a single skin tent that ticks all the ultralight boxes, it uses your trekking poles to give it support, has a generous amount of internal mesh and a high cut flysheet to allow plenty of ventilation. It's even lighter than the previous model!
Big Agnes says:
The Scout UL tent series is best described as a new-school take on old-school A-frame wall tents or tarps. These single-wall tents utilize your trekking poles for support and set up in no time. With ample floor space and minimal weight, these ultralight shelters might change the way you think about tents. The Scout Plus UL2 features a spacious vestibule while the Super Scout has an over-sized vestibule, adding minimal weight. We've added large vents along the base of the tent for ventilation and eves that pull away from the tent wall for more protection from the elements.
**TREKKING/ACCESSORY POLES NOT INCLUDED**
Big Agnes's Scout Plus UL 2 Person Tent is a big tent for its weight and it achieves that by being only single skin and by using your trekking poles as its supports, the trekking poles sit outside the tent so they can be set into the ground for greater stability. Its completely bug proof and there's a generous front porch for storing gear.
Some will worry about condensation in a single skin tent and the Scout Plus offers more ventilation than most, the high cut flysheet allows the wind to breeze through, and the internal mesh panels will help reduce condensation - as will tying the door back when the weather allows.
Some of us don't mind a bit of condensation that can be easily mopped up with a rag - the important thing is that you are protected from the elements - the Scout Plus does this offering good protection from the main enemy - rain, but also don't be put off by the cut out on the flysheet - modern tent materials are very strong and the Scout will resist surprisingly strong gusts of wind.
We've included our review of the previous model below because its the same tent.
