Hilleberg says:

Our simplest solo tent, the fully free standing Unna is supremely easy to pitch nearly anywhere – rocky shores, narrow ridge lines, dense forests (or, of course, even on “perfect” tent sites) – and it boasts an impressive amount of interior space. It is ideal for journeys in any season where low weight is a high priority, and where the terrain makes for tricky pitching conditions.

Rather than a vestibule, the Unna has a spacious interior that easily accommodates the occupant and gear – or, in a pinch, two people. And by disconnecting a corner of the inner tent, one can create a virtual vestibule and keep the inner tent dry while entering or exiting in rainy conditions. Its dome design handles snow loading well, and its roominess and light weight lend themselves very well to mobile journeys, where you pitch your tent each day. Little wonder then that it has become a favorite of paddle tourers, year ‘round backpackers, mountaineers, cycle tourers and casual campers alike.

|All season tents that prioritize light weight over absolute strength, adaptability and overall comfort. Ideal for all season trips where weight is a priority and where the conditions may be all but the most challenging. For users who don't need the strength of Black Label models, or who are willing to give up some strength and comfort for lighter weight. >Read more

Help and advice:

  • Kerlon 1200 outer tent fabric and 9mm poles make for a very lightweight yet supremely stable tent.
  • All season construction: outer tent walls extend to the ground and mesh areas are backed with adjustable fabric panels.
  • Dome construction with two poles provides remarkable strength and generous head room while keeping the weight low.
  • Plenty of room for one occupant and his or her gear.
  • Linked but seperable inner and outer tent for simultaneous pitching.
  • Fully free standing dome design requires no pegs for pitching, and the simple full sleeve and tensioner pole system make for quick, easy set up.
  • The single entrance affords easy access and a spacious interior. If desired, a corner of the inner can be disconnected to create a “virtual” vestibule.
  • An optional footprint covers the entire area of the outer tent. It connects directly to the tent, and can be left attached during pitching.
  • The inner tent can be replaced with a Mesh Inner tent (sold separately).
  • The outer and inner tents can be used separately. Pitching the inner tent alone requires optional pole holderes (sold separately).

Brilliant...almost. Or is it even better?!

If SUL/UL is your ONLY concern; stop reading. I love UL but I wanted a tent that was well made & won't let me down when out hiking in the winter, above the tree line or kayaking, this IS the best I've found. Fully free standing is key for these activities. Another important criteria, for me living in Sweden with shifting weather, the ability of pitching both outer & inner simultaneously is a HUGE advantage when raining/blizzard (Nordic Pitch). Since I'm very much biased at UL my first try was the Helsport Trolltind SL@1,5 kg, but once inside it, I realised that it just didn't make the cut; way too cramped with winter gear, winter sleeping bag etc. and NO easy way of making even the tiniest vestibule. When it's cramped you risk touching the walls & getting condensation on your down sleeping bag; chuck it. Besides the entry is on the short side as well that doesn't suit me. My next attempt was the Hilleberg Soulo, a LOT heavier but built like a fort & a decent vestibule; unfortunately since I'm a big guy; still too cramped inside. IF they offered a XL-version this would be my choice, because I can live with the extra weight since when riding out a winter storm in a sketchy tent is worth carrying the penalty. Unna, remember, still RED LABEL & with a generous inside (230x110 cm). Opening on the LONG SIDE making it a LOT easier to just hook off the bottom end to get a vestibule when needed; BOOM, this is it. EVERYTHING works a charm!
