Six Moon Designs SkyScape X is made from Cuben Fibre for outstanding performance at an incredibly low weight, uses two trekking poles to erect the frame.
Six Moon Designs says: Redesigned support system. The new Skyscape X now has a new system for setting up. The poles will be outside of the shelter to allow for more flexibility in pole lengths. You can also detach the pole from the shelter at the bottom and push the floor back giving more space under the vestibule. This is a great if you want more room outside of the tent but still under the vestibule.
Now with Dual Entries! By popular demand, the new lineup of Skyscape X's now support dual entries. This will significantly ease setting the orentation of the tent in cramped tent sites. Thus allowing you better utilization of campsites in more extreme weather.
All Skyscape models utilize a dual (trekking or optional fixed length 45" or 115 cm) pole support structure, slightly offset from the center of the tent. The offset yields extra head room when lying down, reducing that claustrophobic feeling. Further, it allows the Skyscape to be extremely rigid when guyed out, creating a structure capable of riding out the worst storms.
The Skyscape employs Hybrid Double Wall construction. Over 80% of the canopy is separated from you by a mesh wall, keeping that wet canopy at bay. The Hybrid Double Wall construction allows the vestibules roll back. On warm summer nights, convert the Skyscape into a net tent, pesky bugs stay outside while you enjoy the views and breezes.
The Skyscape's large side entry door lets you easily enter the tent or retrieve gear. With floor length over 100 inches, the Skyscape accommodates the tallest hikers. You can carry a light tent and still sleep well.
New dual door model allows for easy entry into the tent from either side. This makes site selection and tent orientation easier.
The canopy and floor of the X are constructed from state-of-the-art Cuben Fiber. The main properties of Cuben Fiber is its remarkable strength to weight. Developed for use on million dollar racing yachts, Cuben Fiber takes us into a whole new world of light. With the X’s double taped seams, there are No Sacrifices to your comfort or safety.
The X is for those who stop at nothing to get the lightest gear.
Six Moon Designs' Skyscape X is a great shelter at an amazing weight. It uses your trekking poles to provide support and combines single skin and two skin methods to minimise weight. It achieves very good internal volume for a pretty low weight. Its a little fiddly to erect but when you get the hang of it its goes up quickly and only require five pegs.
The single skin panel above the sleeping area can result in some condensation build up inside the inner tent but this is less of a problem than if the whole tent was single skin. Its a good compromise.
The combination trekking poles and crosspiece that make up the frame provide a really sturdy unit such that when the tent's pegged out it is quite strong, in windy conditions the tent gets blown around but it won't get blown over.
Cuben Fibre is expensive but its awesomely lightweight and sheds weather like no other fabric in its class. Six Moon Designs have spent a lot of time perfecting a method of reliably taping the seams and the result is very impressive.
