MSR's Hubba NX series tents are the lightest version of the Hubba tents yet still benefit from the classic Hubba design, featuring near vertical walls, a good blend of fabric and mesh and thoughtful features that make them more comfortable.

MSR says:

Now a full .17 kg (6 oz) lighter, the best-selling, freestanding MSR Hubba NX tent has been reinvented as the most livable, ultralight solo backpacking tent available. Expertly engineered for 3-season camping, the lightweight, compact tent won’t slow you down, whether you’re striking out early to earn solo views along a popular route, or finding your stride on a 10-day trek into the Alaskan wilderness. The tent’s optimized, symmetrical geometry and non-tapered floor maximize space—because you didn’t head out into the backcountry to feel constrained—while other precision-engineered features, from the StayDry door to the adaptable, cross-ventilating rainfly, make the tent so livable, you won’t want to come home.

MSR's Hubba NX tent is the lightest version of the Hubba series and one of our favourite tents. We like that the head height is maintained over a wide area, we like the long interior length giving you space to store your gear, and we like that its freestanding so you can pitch it on hard ground or move it around to find the best spot when choosing your campsite.

The porch is quite spacious for a solo tent and its easy to get in and out of. The Hubba NX series differs from the Hubba HP series in that the flysheet is not cut as close to the ground, and there are reinforcements added to the HP version making it more suited to stormy conditions.

There is now an alternative version of this tent called the Hubba Shield which comes with cutting-edge Easton Syclone Poles and an improved Xtreme Shield waterproof coating that lasts up to 3x longer than normal coatings. However, this does come at an added cost so be sure to check out the Hubba Shield before making your decision on which tent to buy.

If you would like a footprint for this tent you will need the MSR Universal 1 Footprint (sold separately).

MSR Hubba NX 1 Man Tent. Bought October 2017

I have just returned from a 20 days (November 2017) hike in Southern Turkey where I used the MSR Hubba NX 1 Man tent continuously throughout. Having pitched the tent in a whole range of situations I can say that it stood up well to everything the elements threw at it and I would give it a well earned 8 out of 10 for all round performance. But there are two small points worth mentioning: The top fly sheet could have been designed a little closer to the ground to reduce wind getting up in between the fly sheet and inner tent. This would also reduce wetness at each end of the tent in heavy rain. Also, the tent floor is somewhat thin, obviously to keep the weight down, but this can be remedied with the addition of a tent footprint to save on a rip in the tent floor on ground with the odd sharp stone. For these small niggles I hold back on two points. Otherwise, a darned good lightweight hiking tent.
