The Mountain Hardwear Ghost UL1 is an ultralight, freestanding, solo tent that caters to minimalist backpackers seeking the utmost in easy-carrying efficiency.
Mountain Hardwear says:
Our lightest one-person tent. Truly free standing. An ultra lightweight and compact tent for fast packing, cycling and other extremely space-and-weight-sensitive trips.
Mountain Hardwear's Ghost UL tents have basically replaced the Super Mega UL series. It's not only lighter than its predecessor but larger and more durable too. They previously used a 10D fly fabric but have now found a 20D that's actually lighter! It's fibres are stronger in the weave and it's not as immersed in PU coating. They were still able to keep the water protection the same.
It's still quite a spacious tent with good head height maintained over a good length of the tent (relatively speaking of course). We especially like the wishbone at the back - this makes it truly free standing which is a useful feature if you are going to use it high in the mountains where dirt might be a luxury! The rear wishbone also gives added stability when compared to other tents of this design and it enables the head height to be maintained across a greater distance.
When you`re pushing the boundaries and making tents this light the result won`t be as robust as heavier tents but Mountain Hardwear have definitely made a big improvement with these new designs.
