The Ridge Raider bivy sits between a tent and a bivy it will appeal if you`re looking for a low profile shelter or one that will shed the weather much better than an ultralight tent. At 8ft long there`s plenty of room to store gear. The Cocoon is a simplified version of the Nestor Bivy there`s no rear pole and access is gained by shuffling into the front.

Almost perfect bivi/tent

This is a very versatile option. I use it for good weather one-nighters, when I am going to sit outside and enjoy the view until bedtime; and for multi day thru hikes, when I may run out of steam and need to camp on farmland or where there is a limited footprint. This is pretty good for a bit of stealth camping - very quick to put up and pack, low profile and hard to see colour. And you can use it in all sorts of settings in where it would be hard to get a tent up. This is very long, so you can get your pack at the foot and still plenty of room (I’m 5'11"). You will get plenty of condensation if you fully zip it, but leaving four or five inches unzipped takes care of all or most of it. Super light, great pack size, no problems in high rain, masses of space at the head so you can read, etc. Downsides; the fabric is “ flappy” in high wind and noisy. And I find crawling in and out awkward and would prefer a side entrance. But overall, it has become the shelter I use most often, and my MSR is not getting much use since I’ve had this. Wild camped the Pennine Way with it this year, and will do the same this summer.

Rab Ridge Raider

Used the bivi on the GR20. Very roomy and confortable, withstood 3 nights of rain. Condensation might be an issue when fully zipped however it is possible to keep the zipper opened a little bit to prevent it. That would erase the condensation but allow the wind and cold inside. All in all a quality product from Rab.
