Lightwave's Cloudburst Bivi uses their own X-tex fabric which uses Carbon in a novel way to significantly reduce condensation. It's spacious and has a mosquito net protected entry-way, as well as being very light.

Lightwave says

This is a lighter version of the crux B1 recce bivi bag with an additional insect mesh screen. The design has a side access zip. The head panel is made from eVent fabric and is open/closed with a zip. There is also an insect mesh panel.

Our Verdict

Lightwave's Cloudburst Bivi is made from their own X-tex fabric which is very waterproof and highly breathable, ideal attributes for a bivy, in addition the key section over the face is made from eVent fabric which is highly breathable. X-tex has a polyurethane coating with the special ingredient of Active Carbon throughout, this makes it particularly effective at trapping moisture ready for transportation to the outside of the fabric, resisting the formation of droplets. The effect is minimum condensation inside the tent or bivi bag.

We've used it and while not perfect it does seem to work.

The Cloudburst has a decent groundsheet and lighter weight fabric on the upper surfaces. The head end has more volume built into it making it less restrictive if you are using it with the entry-way closed. If you open the outer zip there is a mesh panel covering the opening with a zip for access into the bag itself. The outer zip has a rainflap but the zip iteself is not the water resistant type.

There are four pegging loops, one at each corner which I find always makes it easier to move around in, rather than 'taking the bag with you' when you decide to roll over. There's room for other gear inside depending on the size of your sleeping bag, afterall its 235cm long.

Given the performance of the fabric nad the low weight of 402grams we think its a great bivi bag.
