Big Agnes's Slater tents are larger than others in this category and with a full fabric inner tent are designed to deal with more unsettled weather conditions and camping in cooler temperatures.
Big Agnes says:
Three season, free standing, superlight tents.
The Slater SL+ offers extra floor space across the board, and a second door and vestibule on the 3+ size. Whether you’re flying solo or bringing a dog or partner, the extra space comes at little cost in these minimalist free-standing shelters. We’ve revamped the mesh walls on the tent body with lightweight breathable nylon rip-stop for that extra bit of warmth and privacy, or just to keep the sand and wind out when you’re headed to the desert.
Big Agnes's Slater SL Tents incorporate a full fabric inner tent which is the best option for dealing with wet and windy conditions which you could experience in the UK and makes the tent significantly warmer. This adds weight, and so does the use of heavier fabrics (40D compared with 20D fabrics on the Copper Spur series) which ensure a longer lifespan of the tent compared to super-lightweight models.
The Slater tents also offer more space, both in the inner tent and the porch when compared to other tents of a similar design, so the Slaters have a higher head height and longer inner tent to accommodate taller people or simply to have more space. The three person model has a cross pole at the rear to extend the head height over a larger area, which works quite well.
With a pole wishbone at either end, and working with the guying out points on the tent the Slater tents offer excellent stability and wind resistance. 2 and 3 person tents with a single entrance like this one can be limiting compared with two entrances and two porches.
In summary, although the Slater tents are not the lightest they offer more space, potentially a longer lifespan and are equipped for cooler more unsettled conditions.
